We did a tread last year about reading books versus e readers. Shall we do one about tablet technology? I have an ipad mini, I'm new to the apple technology. Finding this so much fun! Easier to hold than my hubby normal sized ipad. . What's your experiences - good or bad. Jane Xxx

Apple products are a Marmite thing. You love 'em or hate 'em. Personally I hate the whole Apple philosophy that says that users are such dunderheads that we will lock down the technology in such a way as to protect the users from themselves. So I have gone the Android Tablet route. I own two, a 10" wide angle display and fonepad, a 7 " device that doubles as a phone. I love them probably as much as Apple devotees love their iDevices but they are CHEAPER. more open and above all else allow you to expand storage using SD cards / USB. Paul Barrett

had an Ipad for Christmas and I love it. I haven't used it for reading yet but it is so handy to be able to check emails and go on line from the sofa or even the garden. And I must admit to being addicted to Candy Crush. Sue

i had a new Samsung Tablet for my 60th and i love it, my phone is also a Samsung so i can tether it ( not quite sure what that means yet .. lol ) but Hubby does, so that i can use my internet access from the phone if necessary.
i read the papers on it etc. instead of having to turn on my main PC, and like Sue i am addicted to Candy Crush which is much easier to play on the Tablet than my PC.
it was a good buy .. and it fits into my handbag,
Hubby has just treated himself to an Apple one which he really likes. our local Apple shop had a free lesson which he went to this week,
they open up the world i think .. and yet i very nearly didn't go for mine, was going to have a piece of jewellery instead.

Couldn't agree with you less about Apple, Paul! Some of us are dunderheads when it comes to technology! I LOVE my iPad and it was a lifesaver when I spent such a long time I hospital. Mind you, I loathe Marmite!

I agree with jean for someone who is not up on this sort of stuff it must be hard I use an ipad and would not be without it my old laptop is in a cupboard now getting dusty, it is also handy for people with the dam RA as you can use a pointer stick if your hands are in flair up I would like owners of the company's to think more about people who find it hard to use but like to use it as the body may be weak but the brain is still going

Hi all , I have asus Google Nexus 7 tablet and i love it . It has google all over it , so basically once set up with a google email , webstorage etc is very easy to use to keep intouch . There are so many apps nowadays for android stuff ... I even have a DAS28 calculator on it . I have a youview box , and can now even set recordings on it . The screen is not upto retina dispaly standards at 216ppi but that is great even for photography . I am able to take the tablet out with me when i go snapping and with a cheap app and accessory can look at the images while I am out on a bigger screen :). I have the first version which cost me £175, and there is a newer better version coming this month with massive upgrades including a 323 ppi resolution and a faster processor . The price is believed to be similar if not cheaper , and I want one already :) Rich :) "The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

Rich :) How are you finding the YouView box Rich? I currently have a Humax Freesat box but the YouView box is tempting. Did you get a generic one or buy via BT? Paul Barrett

Hi Paul , Mine is with talk talk .. the freeview side is fine , however it is still very buggy , especially with any extra online channels eg sky packages through talk talk . I would honestly hold off for a bit as I think they still have a few bugs to iron out , but that may be down to talk talk issues (although I have got a 14MB download speed) Rich :) "The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

I like paper books.
I have a small Android Galaxy tablet thing, but I don't use much on it (I mostly just use it as an MP3 player and to connect to Facebook when I'm out). At home I have a Samsung netbook that is still going strong. My hands can be pesky and I find this much more comfortable to use.

I've got an iPhone and iPad I find the operating system simple and intuitive My hubby and 18 yr old son have Samsung phones They are really good android thingies But they aren't for me! The laptop We did look at apple but they seemed £££££££££££££ for what they did So We've got a lushy levono type one I'm so pleased with it We've gone for kindles The newest one is a reconditioned white paper one It's great The benefit of it is you can hold HUGE books or small fiddly ones and with wonky hands its a delight how to be a velvet bulldoser
